Ocean City Beach Tag Revenue
Most sea side communities in New Jersey require beach tags to access the beach from Memorial Day through Labor Day. They are a user fee to off set the cost municipalities incur to maintain the beach and provide lifeguards, trash removal, beach cleaning/raking and the purchase of equipment necessary for these task. Ocean City approved the beach tag program in 1976 and beach tags have been required for summer months since that time. Beach tag fees are a significant source of revenue for Ocean City and other New Jersey beach communities.
